PPT has three ongoing programs:
a school year program for ages 6-13
a school year program for ages 12-18
The Pied Piper Actors' Society for teens
The School Year program includes four full-scale productions, with two targeted to tweens and teens and two to children ages 6-13 years.
Ages 6-13 year old students rehearse two times per week for approximately six weeks leading up to performances over one weekend. The first show of the year happens in mid-December (with auditions in late-October) and the second show for this age group happens in late-May/early June (with auditions in April). Past productions include Stone Soup, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Charlotte's Web, as well as PPT original plays like Potato Bug Ranch, The Three, and Zephyr. Participation in these productions requires a commitment to attend rehearsals two times per week (1.5-hour rehearsals), and all tech and dress rehearsals leading up to the performance weekend.
Ages 12-18 year old students rehearse three times per week for approximately eight weeks leading up to the teen fall play in early-November (with auditions in early-September) and approximately 12 weeks leading up to the teen spring musical in April (with auditions in January). Pied Piper's teen productions run over two consecutive weekends. Past productions include The Addams Family Musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, Shrek: The Musical, You Can't Take It With You, As You Like It, Our Town, and Into the Woods, among many other challenging classics. Participation in these productions requires a commitment to attend rehearsals three times per week (3-hour rehearsals) and all tech and dress rehearsals leading up to the performance weekends.
The Pied Piper Actors' Society is a select group of teens deeply dedicated to the theatre who meet monthly and take on leadership roles in the theatre and community. As a theatre, our focus is not only on the performing arts, but also the team building skills that our children learn through the vehicle of theatre. PPT fundamentally encourages the development of community and the core value of service to the community. The Actors' Society is formed yearly by application and awarded to teens with recognizable commitment to the theatre and qualities of service and leadership. The Actors' Society members act in or participate in the production of three productions throughout the year. They take responsibility for costume and lighting design, mentor younger children, and volunteer as the face of PPT at public events, such as the Little Red Lighthouse Festival.
